When the mission becomes personal: How a staff member became a sponsor

At ChildFund International, we often say we work to change children’s lives, but sometimes, our own lives are transformed in the process.
Francis Okot, a proud former ChildFund Uganda staff member (2014–2020), is a powerful example of what it truly means to live the mission. While supporting ChildFund’s work in Uganda, he went a step further, personally sponsoring Bazil, a bright young boy who had lost both parents and faced a future full of uncertainty.
With Francis’ support and inspired by the values and training he received at the organisation, Bazil completed school, became a qualified secondary school teacher and is now building a future not just for himself, but for others. He’s supporting his siblings, educating his own children, and has even built a home for his family.

“Had it not been for the job and training from ChildFund Uganda, it would be difficult to share this exciting and life-saving story,” Francis shares.
This is the ripple effect of our work. When staff become sponsors, the mission transcends job descriptions. It becomes a legacy.
To Francis, thank you for your heart, your service and for reminding us that the greatest impact often starts with one small, deeply personal act.
