Before the school bell rings, many children in Palorinya Refugee Settlement have already walked several kilometres in search of water. Carrying heavy 20-litre jerrycans on their heads or in their hands, these young learners face a daily challenge that affects their health, safety and time in school.
Through the ChildFund,
Jerrybag,
Sustainable Design Centre and
ChorogUsan for Children, 2,083 learners across four primary schools received Jerrybags, innovative backpacks that double as water carriers. Designed to make water collection safer, easier, and less physically demanding, the Jerrybags distribute weight evenly, reduce physical strain, and help children balance household responsibilities with their education.
